Burdette "Birdie" Ringgold, 1929-2020

RIP
Burdette (Birdie) Ringgold
Sept 14, 1929 – Feb 1, 2020

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

By Mary Elizabeth Frye 1932

From Faith Ringgold and Family: We sadly announce that Birdie transitioned from this world on Saturday afternoon, February 1, 2020.  We loved him dearly and can only find solace in knowing that he slept away from this world peacefully in his chair while taking a nap after lunch.  We miss him.

Because we are in a pandemic our family has decided not to have any formal funeral arrangements, but only a direct cremation without services. We will invite everyone to celebrate Birdie's life in their own hearts.
